If you want to hear some fragments of WAER's Past,
you need to download the Real
Audio Plugin. This lets you hear audio in real time, without
having to download big audio files. Installing a plugin is really
easy and it only takes a few minutes.
WAER
Innovators Promo
This promo for WAER features Ted Koppel of ABC stating, "Let
the students run it". Voices on this tape include Dave
Levin, Glenn Kesner and Melissa Green.
Coffee Break Promo
Don Rully was the host of this show that occurred from 11:00AM -
12:00PM, Monday-Friday. It was a call-in talk show program that
featured guests either live in the studio or via telephone. Calls
were fed through a tape delay of seven seconds.
Chief's
Baseball Promo
WAER was the station that broadcasted the Syracuse Chiefs both
home and away. This is a promo for the 1983 season (creator
unknown).
Purely Coincidental Promo
There was a group of students who were primarily
the heart and soul of University Union Television (UUTV) that
"crossed over" into radio comedy. They did a series of
comedy bits that ran twice a week, as well as a number of promos
for the show. This is one of them. The production company was
called William Porpoise Productions.
Jazz
Ensemble Promo
Although the School of Visual and Performing Arts and the
Newhouse School didn't get along, there was a weak
"bond" between Steve Marcone, conductor of the SU Jazz
ensemble and professor of the History of Rock Music class offered
at VPA. Steve would bring us his own promos for the Jazz Ensemble
show each semester at the Jab. Be there!
Nick Danger ID
This is an oldie but a goodie. It comes from the opening of a
Firesign Theatre bit called "Nick Danger, Third Eye".
Some creative types integrated it with another station ID we had
in the collection from sportscaster Marv Albert.
Spectrum
Records
WAER got records from the student run Spectrum Records in
exchange for "promotional consideration". This is one
of the more creative spots from Dave Levin.
Movie
"Heavy Metal" Promo
One of the cool things about WAER was if you were inspired to do
something, you could just do it without "permission".
If Glenn Kesner wanted to do a fun promo for a movie playing on
campus, he could get out his razor blade and cut some tape.
Druger's
Zoo
Professor Marv Druger had a short feature that ran in the
afternoon. Here is a promo for it.
