Hard
to believe that less than 100 years ago the US had a vibrant Railway
system, most of it running on steam locomotives. They are all gone
now. The last few run on "short line" railways or on
remnants of the lines they used to command.
Steamtown, located in Scranton, PA is a US
National Park where you can see the steam locomotives run.
 You
can even take a ride on one. The two hour excursion is a round
trip to Moscow, PA. You get to ride in coaches built in the 1920's
pulled behind a steam locomotive.
We went for a ride in October when the fall foliage was out, leading
for the chance to take some "postcard" shots.
The old Delaware and Lackawanna rail yards in Scranton have been transformed
into a full museum, complete with tours of the locomotive shops.
Here's a bit better shot of the Canadian Pacific's 2317
locomotive, the one that pulled us to Moscow. It really is
beautifully restored.
Anna
catches up on her reading while waiting to pull out.
Sitting
in the car, watching the world go by. It is quite pretty, especially in
the fall.
