| Sussex County New Jersey is the location of many rare
minerals. I built a web site for the Franklin
Mineral Museum. Have a look! Here's a few pictures
of our recent trip there:
Grandma
Lotko worked in geology, so this was the best place to take her.
She said that she needed to memorize all the chemical formulas of them.
|
And
if you have a look at the formula of this piece of Dynamite, you really
must have some kind of memory to learn all of the formulas. |
Anna
found a Zinc brick in the corner and decided to move it.
There wasn't much chance though.

It probably weighs 50 pounds. |
|
One
of the more colorful cases of minerals in the collection.

You could spend hours looking at all of the specimens. |
The
highlight of the Museum is this rather boring looking black room with
rocks behind the glass.

The best part is when they turn the lights off and turn on the
"black lights". The minerals are fluorescent and glow in
beautiful shades of green and red. These are my pictures, but
see my website on the museum for some studio pictures that are much
better in quality. |
Anna
takes a crack at the hammer in the mine replica. Good thing that
they didn't turn on the compressed air. |
