Just up the street is Ellis Island, the main arrival of all immigrants to
the United States from 1890 to 1950. The National Parks Service restored part of the
island in the 1980's, and they are still working on other parts of the island. Here
is (L to R) Maria, Anna and Eva looking at one of the models of the island. They
have several models showing how the island was enlarged over the years. |
To
get to Ellis Island, you can take a ferry from either Battery Park in New York City, or
from Liberty State Park in New Jersey. We go to Liberty State Park. It costs
a few dollars for parking and a few more for the Ferry.

This is a display in the Baggage room of the Ellis Island building. From
one angle it looks like an American flag, but form the other angle it is a wall of faces.
The kids enjoyed looking at all the different faces.
