Monument Valley
Back Home Up Next

We happened to drive through on an overcast day when it actually rained for a short time.  A rare occasion in the desert.  It was hard to see the formations, so I guess we'll need to go back.

With a little "Photoshop magic" I can make it look a bit brighter than it was.

The scale of these formations is the truly amazing thing.  When taking pictures it is a good idea to include a person.  It's the only way you can get the perspective.

It looks like any of a dozen John Ford Western films.  It probably always will, with the landscape never changing.

No chance of a sub-division popping up here any time soon.

The only way across the Grand Canyon is to drive across the Navajo Bridge.  Actually there are two bridges.  One was built in the 1920's and needed replacement in 1994.  Instead of destroying the original, they left it as a foot bridge and built the new bridge with the same style as the original

The scale of this area of the country is the amazing thing.  Everyone says that the Grand Canyon must be seen to be experienced.  It is true, but along the way you must see all of the other parts of geology related to it.  Click on the image at the right.  Note the tiny white speck in the lower right corner of the picture. That is a small boat, maybe 10-15 feet long.
